What Is a Niacin Equivalent (NE), and What Does 7.5 mg NE Mean?
A niacin equivalent (NE) is the unit used to state how much vitamin B3 an adult needs. The adult RDA is 16 mg NE for men and 14 mg NE for women. The VapoCept panel lists 7.5 mg NE, which is 47% of the male RDA by our arithmetic. Check your bottle.

The unit01
What does NE mean on a niacin label?
NE stands for niacin equivalents. It is a single scale for vitamin B3 that lets food and supplement forms be compared.
The NIH fact sheet states adult needs in mg NE: 16 mg NE a day for men and 14 mg NE for women (NIH ODS, Niacin (health professional)). When a panel prints "mg NE", the amount is on that same scale, so you can set it beside the RDA without converting.
The unit does not say which form the vitamin takes. Nicotinic acid and niacinamide act differently at high doses, so the form matters when amounts get large.
The numbers02
How much niacin do adults need, and how much is too much?
Adults need 14 to 16 mg NE a day. The upper limit from supplements is 35 mg a day.
Flushing, with a hot, red, itchy face, arms and chest, usually starts at 30 mg or more of nicotinic acid. Liver harm is linked to far higher doses, in the hundreds to thousands of milligrams a day (NIH ODS, Niacin (consumer)).
| Benchmark | Amount | 7.5 mg NE is |
|---|---|---|
| RDA, adult men | 16 mg NE | 47% |
| RDA, adult women | 14 mg NE | 54% |
| Upper limit from supplements | 35 mg | 21% |
| Typical flushing level (nicotinic acid) | 30 mg or more | 25% or less |

What does the 7.5 mg NE in VapoCept tell you?
That the capsule holds part of a daily niacin need, as listed in the brand's panel. It does not tell you the vitamin changes how you think.
The NIH pages make no claim that niacin helps memory or focus. Memory problems appear in their text only as part of severe deficiency (NIH ODS, Niacin (consumer)). A top-up for someone who eats enough niacin is a different thing from a boost, and no cited study tests it. The form on the panel was not named in the files we have.

Should you count niacin from other products?
Yes. Multivitamins, B-complex tablets and fortified cereals all count toward the 35 mg limit.
Write down each product's niacin, then add them. Ask a pharmacist if the total nears 35 mg or if you have liver disease.
If you pick VapoCept after that check, the packs below go to the sales page. A supplement is not a drug, and the side effects page has the cautions.

FAQ05
VapoCept questions people ask
Is mg NE the same as mg of niacin?
Not always. NE is a scale that puts food and supplement forms on one footing. For plain niacin in a supplement, 1 mg and 1 mg NE are usually treated the same, but the label's own wording rules.
Is 7.5 mg NE of niacin enough to cause flushing?
Unlikely. Flushing usually starts at 30 mg or more of nicotinic acid, and 7.5 mg NE is at most a quarter of that. The panel does not name the form, so we cannot promise there will be no flush.
Does the niacin in a supplement help memory?
No cited source says so. The NIH pages make no cognition claim for niacin, and short-term B-vitamin use has not improved thinking in older adults. Memory loss appears in the text only as part of severe deficiency.
