The plain list01
What are the side effects of L-arginine?
The reported ones are mostly stomach trouble: pain, bloating, nausea and diarrhea.
Memorial Sloan Kettering lists those four, plus case reports of esophagitis and acute pancreatitis (MSK, Arginine (About Herbs)). A case report is one person's story. It shows what has happened, not how often.
| Effect | Source | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Stomach pain, bloating, nausea, diarrhea | MSK | The usual group, tied to larger doses |
| Lower blood pressure | Mayo Clinic | Matters with blood pressure medicine |
| Higher bleeding risk | Mayo Clinic | "Might" occur with blood thinners |
| Esophagitis, pancreatitis | MSK | Rare reports, cause not proven |
Who should skip it02
Who should avoid L-arginine?
Anyone who has recently had a heart attack, and anyone on certain medicines unless a clinician agrees.
Mayo Clinic says arginine is not recommended after a recent heart attack because it might raise the risk of death (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine). The trial behind that warning gave about 9 g a day to 153 patients. Six died on arginine and none on placebo, and it stopped early (VINTAGE MI trial, L-arginine after heart attack (ACC summary)). It studied heart attack survivors only.
Blood pressure drugs, nitrates and sildenafil can combine with arginine to push pressure too low, and blood thinners might add bleeding risk.
The 200 mg line03
Do these side effects apply to the 200 mg in VapoCept?
The evidence comes from gram doses, and 200 mg is far below them, but the medicine cautions still apply.
As listed in the brand's panel, a capsule has L-arginine 200 mg and L-arginine AKG 200 mg. Even if both were pure arginine, 400 mg is about 4% of the 9 g in the heart attack trial. No study tested the combination, and serving size is not shown in the files we have, so check the bottle. See the L-arginine page.

FAQ05
VapoCept questions people ask
Can L-arginine cause stomach pain or diarrhea?
Yes, stomach pain, bloating, nausea and diarrhea are the reported effects, according to Memorial Sloan Kettering. They are tied to larger doses. If they keep happening, stop the supplement and ask a pharmacist or doctor whether it is the cause.
Is L-arginine safe to take every day?
For healthy adults, NIH says up to 9 g a day appears safe for days to weeks, and stomach upset becomes likelier above that. Longer-term data are thinner. People with heart disease or regular medicines should ask first.
Why is L-arginine not recommended after a heart attack?
Mayo Clinic says it might increase the risk of death. A trial of 153 heart attack patients on about 9 g a day had 6 deaths on arginine and none on placebo before it stopped early. The result applies to heart attack survivors.
