Brain Supplement Side Effects: What to Expect by Ingredient
Brain supplement side effects depend on the ingredient. Niacin can cause flushing at about 30 mg or more of nicotinic acid. Arginine can upset the stomach and add to blood pressure drugs. Beta-alanine causes tingling, mostly at 800 mg or more. VapoCept's listed amounts are below those levels, but no safety study of VapoCept exists.

What side effects do brain supplements commonly cause?
It depends on the ingredient family, not on the word "brain" on the front.
NIH's office says side effects are most likely at high doses, when supplements replace prescribed medicine, or when many are combined (NIH ODS, Dietary supplements: what you need to know). Stomach upset, flushing, tingling and changes in blood pressure are the ones tied to the families below.
Stimulants and herbal extracts sit outside VapoCept's panel, and we cite no source for their effects. Ask a pharmacist about any you take.

Which side effects go with which ingredient?
Each family has a known effect and a level where it appears.

| B vitamin: niacin | Flushing from about 30 mg of nicotinic acid; liver harm only at far higher doses | 7.5 mg NE |
| Amino acid: arginine | Stomach upset; can add to blood pressure drugs | 200 mg plus 200 mg AKG |
| Amino acid: citrulline | Stomach discomfort in one study | 100 mg plus 100 mg |
| Amino acid: beta-alanine | Tingling at about 800 mg or more | 40 mg |

Can niacin in a brain supplement cause flushing?
At about 30 mg or more of nicotinic acid, yes. NIH's fact sheet describes a red, hot, itchy face, arms and chest (NIH ODS, Niacin (consumer)).
VapoCept lists 7.5 mg NE, about 21% of the 35 mg supplement upper limit by our arithmetic. The form is not named, so we do not say which type it is. If you take other niacin products, add them up.

What are the side effects of arginine, citrulline and beta-alanine?
Stomach upset is the usual one, tingling is the beta-alanine one, and arginine has medicine cautions.
Memorial Sloan Kettering lists stomach pain, bloating, nausea and diarrhea for arginine (MSK, Arginine (About Herbs)). The listed 40 mg of beta-alanine is about 5% of the 800 mg where tingling is reported. The capsule is shown below by weight; the side effects page has the full cautions.

FAQ06
VapoCept questions people ask
Why does niacin make my face red?
Niacin in the form of nicotinic acid widens small blood vessels in the skin, which causes flushing, warmth and itching. NIH describes it at about 30 mg or more. The effect is usually harmless but unpleasant.
Can supplements cause headaches or stomach pain?
Yes. Stomach pain, bloating and nausea are reported with arginine, and headache can follow flushing. Taking a supplement with water and food can matter, but ask a pharmacist, because directions differ by product.
Do amino acid supplements affect blood pressure?
They can. Arginine and citrulline lowered blood pressure slightly at gram doses in studies. Anyone on blood pressure medicine should ask a doctor first, since effects could add together.
What does tingling from a supplement mean?
Tingling, called paresthesia, is the known effect of beta-alanine, mostly at 800 mg or more. It is not considered serious. Persistent or unusual tingling is a reason to call a clinician.
