Are Brain Supplements a Scam, or Just Weak? How to Tell
Not every brain supplement is a scam. Many are simply under-tested. A product turns dishonest when it claims results it cannot support, uses fake reviews or hides terms. The FTC has alleged unsupported memory claims against a brain product. VapoCept has no study of its own, and its listed doses are small.

Two different problems01
Is a weak brain supplement the same as a scam?
No. A weak product has a real ingredient list but little proof. A scam lies about what it is or what it does.
Could the seller show evidence for the exact product at its exact dose? If not, treat the claim as unproven.
What regulators did02
What has the FTC done about brain supplement claims?
It has sued over memory claims and warned sellers over disease claims. These are allegations and letters, not proof about every product.
In January 2017 the FTC and New York's Attorney General alleged false memory claims. They said the maker's own study did not show the advertised effect (FTC, Prevagen's fishy brainpower claims). In 2019 the FDA and FTC warned a "nootropics" seller over dementia and Alzheimer's wording (FDA/FTC warning letter to Pure Nootropics (Feb 2019)).
Warning signs03
Which signs separate a dishonest product from a weak one?
Look for claims that cannot be checked, not for low doses alone.
| Sign | Weak but honest | Dishonest |
|---|---|---|
| Evidence | Says none was found for the product | Cites a study of something else as proof |
| Reviews | Absent or clearly labelled | Unnamed, perfect or paid without disclosure |
| Disease wording | None | Dementia or Alzheimer's claims |
A 2024 FTC rule bans fake and AI-written reviews (FTC, Final rule banning fake reviews).

Are VapoCept's doses a sign of a scam?
Small doses make a weak case for the claims. They do not by themselves make a scam.
We found no study of VapoCept. Its panel amounts sit far below the gram doses studied for its amino acids. The is it legit page covers the seller badges, none of which names a certifier.

FAQ06
VapoCept questions people ask
How do I know if a brain supplement is a scam?
Ask whether the seller can show evidence for the exact product and dose. Warning signs are disease claims, unnamed reviewers, a study of a different ingredient offered as proof, and charges you never clearly agreed to.
Is it illegal for a supplement to claim it treats dementia?
Yes. The FDA says a product intended to treat or prevent disease is a drug, even if sold as a supplement.
Are brain supplement reviews trustworthy?
Often not. A 2024 FTC rule bans fake and AI-written reviews, but reviews that look real can still be paid or selected.
What should I do if I was charged for a brain supplement I did not want?
Contact the seller using your order confirmation and ask your card issuer about the charge.
